Yoga for Women
Yoga provides women with an opportunity and a space to discover and experience themselves. Yoga is not a set of rules or exercise but instead it is a mode and a way of existence. With its physical and spiritual healing powers, it becomes a boon for women who can live a healthy and a spiritual life by simply following the yogic principles of life. Based on simple breathing exercises and yogic asanas, Yoga can benefit women in every stage of her life as it helps in reducing stress, increasing flexibility, keeping the respiratory and cardiac diseases in check and also helps in the reduction of lower back pain which is common in women.
In the recent past, yoga has become a favourite with women due to its weight reducing benefits. Instead of sweating it out on a treadmill, women prefer following the regular asanas of yoga to maintain an optimum body-weight. Moreover, by following a gradual, metabolic approach to weight normalization, yoga prevents the rebound effect which is commonly witnessed in crash courses of weight reduction. Along with keeping one’s weight in check, the breathing exercises of yoga promotes the health and development of one’s heart and lung.
According to a survey, many women have found out that a regular yoga routine helps to improve menstrual related disorders especially those involving pre-menstrual syndromes of depression and anxiety. In addition, it also helps in strengthening of the abdominal muscles which helps in decreasing painful cramping of muscles. Moreover, there are also mild exercises of yoga like ashtanga yoga which have been designed specifically for pregnant women to help them remain fit and healthy.
Yoga is a healthy mode of relaxation which carries with it an overall sense of wellness. It can be taken up by women of any age as it involves simple yet effective asanas (yogic postures) and breathing exercises which can bring about a spiritual and a physical healing effect.
