July 30, 2008

Be it a small school going girl or an aged old man- the levels of hypertension and anxiety are attaining new heights every day. Due to the increasing levels of competition and struggle, the levels of tension, stress and fatigue are growing every day which in turn are leading to a rising number of people suffering from the problem of hypertension. Hypertension is a problem which can disrupt a happy and a healthy life of a person by putting him in the shadows of various diseases like cardiovascular disorders and others. Unfortunately, this problem is growing rapidly which is engulfing people of all age and gender. Lifestyle management can play an important role in preventing the problem of hypertension and thus, yoga with its holistic approach comes a great ray of hope due to its physical and spiritual healing powers which in turn can lead to the overall health of one’s mind, body and spirit.

The best way to deal with the problem of hypertension is by indulging in the therapy of yoga which aims at providing overall health through the harmonization of one’s body and mind. By following certain yogic asanas, one can de-stress and re-energize oneself to effectively prevent and treat the problem of hypertension.

Yogic asanas and poses for Hypertension

Simple Breathing exercise: This is the basic yogic exercise which involves inhaling through one nostril, retaining the breath and exhaling through the other nostril. Also known as Anuloma Viloma, this basic breathing exercise helps in the overall health and well-being of a person.

Shoulder stretches: sitting down in a comfortable position and practicing certain stretching exercises which involve the muscles of one’s back and shoulders can be effective in de-stressing a person which in turn can help in treating the problem of hypertension.

Other yogic asanas like cat pose and half spinal twist can be effective in preventing and treating the problem of hypertension. Doing yoga regularly is essential for the overall health of a person as it aims at providing physical and spiritual healing power. Most importantly, in the hustle and bustle of today’s world, yoga is the only art and therapy which aims at uniting a person with his own inner self and powers which helps in eliminating all diseases and disorders.
