What to do on your first day of college? Read on

July 18, 2008

Is tomorrow a first day of your college? Nervous and Worried? Don’t panic, within a week you will be as kewl as your seniors. Here are few tips that can reduce the butterflies in your stomach regarding the same.
Attire
Let’s begin with your appearance first. Don’t wear anything that attracts all the attention towards you. Yes, you may want to impress your fellow mates, but remember you will attract all the seniors and teachers attentions too. So, go for a basic denim jeans and tee look for the first day. For those girls who are not comfy wearing jeans –there are always salwaar –kameez. Make sure you choose soft colors. Whatever you wear, accessorize accordingly.

Behavior
Now let’s talk about your behavior for the first day. Don’t try to be overly boisterous and chirpy. Keep quiet, listen and observe. Just be yourself. Try to use the first few days to familiarize yourself with your college. Check out the canteen, library and the other offbeat areas around your college.

Ragging
Ragging may be a dreaded word for many. Though there is a ban on it, and you will see cops patrolling the campus and positioned around every college gate, it’s best to deal with the situation if and when it arises. If you don’t want to be ragged, a polite, yet firm ‘no’ should do it.

other information
Make sure you read the notice board of your college and visit the common room too. Common or recreational rooms and canteens are the places where friendships are forged as you bond over a cup of coffee. The notice board will give you all the information that you will need-about the societies, the fee structure, submission of forms etc. for various ECA categories and the general goings –on in the college.
