Wearing high heels? Read this out!

October 1, 2008

Do you know that prolonged wearing of high heels can cause irreversible long-term damage to your body? It has been proved that one third of the of total number of women who wear high heels suffer from permanent foot problems such as hammertoes, bunions to irreversible damages to leg tendons due to their prolonged hours of wearing of killer heels.

Most of the problems that wearing of high heels causes results when high heel puts increased pressure on the balls of your foot. Remember higher the heels; the greater is the pressure that they put. This affects your knees as well as your back area in a big way. High heels make you raise your heel and as soon as you do this, your center of gravity gets pushed forward. And when you bend your lower back to compensate this act, it changes the position of your spine, ultimate putting pressure on the nerves of your back area. Thus this causes a painful condition known as sciatica that traps the nerves, trigging pain and numbness as far down as the feet.

Another problem that you suffer from wearing high heels is Achilles tendon. Tendon is designed to be flexible so that your foot can lie flat or pointed. But when you wear high heels too often, the tendon gets shortened because once the heel gets pointed upwards, it tightens up. Stretching it again proves out to be very painful and when you try to put your foot back into the flat shoes, you suffer from lot of pain in the back of the heel. It’s the same reason why even 70 years old women hobble around in high heels because they can’t put their feet flat any more as it’s just too aching for them.
