Ways to Prevent Indigestion
A majority of people complain of indigestion. It is a very common problem which affects many and is accompanied by a bloating and an upset stomach and by discomfort and occasional heartburns. A major cause of indigestion is intake of heavy, oily and fatty food. However, there are people who tend to have the problem of indigestion quite frequently. The following tips can help prevent the problem of indigestion.
The basic thing you can do to prevent indigestion is by ensuring proper intake of nutritional food, not oily and fried ones. Include a high fiber diet which helps in adding digestion, thereby preventing indigestion. This implies increased intake of food items like vegetables and fruits in particular. Along with including these important fiber-rich foods in your diet, there are also some so-called “gassy” food items which should be strictly avoided. These include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and carbonated drinks. Increase your water consumption and keep a check on your fat intake.
Along with having a nutritious diet, a change in eating habits can help in preventing indigestion. First of all, you should chew your food well and eat it slowly. Do not gulp down your food as that reduces the production of digestive enzymes which are essential for digestion. Do not overeat, even if your favorite dish is kept on the table. Follow self-restraint and respect the signals of your body. Overeating simply implies giving invitation to indigestion and its related problems.
A healthy diet and dietary habit needs to be complemented by regular exercise to reduce digestion related disorders. Also, keep a check on your stress level as high stress level can lead to indigestion. According to research, one should limit one’s antacid consumption as overuse of it can also impair the digestive function of the body. Follow these simple tips and rid yourself of all digestion related disorders.
