Ways to Prevent Chapped Lips
January 6, 2009
When we go out, we go out with perfect makeup and with proper care taken of our eyes and skin. However, we usually neglect our lips. Applying lipstick and making it match with our overall attire and look is not enough. You need to take proper care of it so that they can be prevented from the damage of sun, cold winds and changing environmental conditions.
Many people suffer from the problem of cracked and chapped lips and often associate it with changing weather conditions. However, it is not necessary that with the advent of winters, you have to have the problem of chapped lips. It can easily be prevented.
For a perfect kiss, you need perfect lips. First of all you need to remember certain facts about lips. They do not contain any oil glands to keep them soft and supple and neither do they have any inherent protection against sun and its harmful rays. Obviously, they are entirely dependent on you and if you neglect them, they are bound to get dry, irritated, cracked and chapped.
Lip balms are extremely useful. There are various options in the market and you should try to choose the one which suits your lips the best. Ideally, go for natural ones. Also, buy ones which have sun protection in them as just like your skin, your lips too need protection from UV rays. Applying a lip balm won’t take much of your time but it will ensure your lips are in healthy condition. You can also soften and moisturize your chapped lips with olive oil or petroleum jelly, an old but effective remedy.
Many of us are in the habit of licking our lips as that makes it seem moisturized. However, this is an unhealthy habit and only worsens the condition of dry lips rather than treating it. Drink water, plenty of it. Not only is it good for your lips, but also for your hair, skin and overall health. Eat foods rich in vitamin B as lack of this nutrient can lead to chapped lips. Thus, consume more of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fish amongst others. Follow these tips if you want your lips to remain healthy, soft and supple across all seasons and conditions.
