Ways to Prevent Cataract
Cataract is one of the most common eye related disorder associated with the process of aging. It is a problem in which the lens inside the eyes becomes cloudy blocking clarity in vision. Cataracts are usually caused by aging and generally occur in people around 70 years. They can also occur due to trauma, diabetes and prolonged exposure to sunlight. If you want to protect your eyes, then you need to take some preventive measures. You should not wait for your 70th birthday to start taking precautions. Instead, if you want to prevent or at least delay cataract problem, then you need to follow some preventive measures given below from your early years.
To prevent cataract, you need to protect your eyes from ultra violet radiations. They can prove extremely harmful for your eyes. Eyes contain natural antioxidant, lutein, which helps protect the eyes from damage. This antioxidant usually decreases with age leading to weakening of eye muscles and vision. Lutein helps in preventing glaucoma and cataract and you can provide your eyes with this important antioxidant by eating foods like spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprout, lettuce, green peas, kiwi fruit, and marigold. Also, antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin E and beta carotene have been shown to slow the development of cataracts. You should protect your eyes from trauma as an injury to eye makes you more vulnerable for cataract. Also, if you are diabetic, you should keep your blood sugar under strict control to prevent cataract. Also, if you feel there is deterioration of your eyesight or weakening of eye muscles, you must consult your doctor to prevent serious consequences.
Follow these simple tips and keep your eyes healthy by preventing or at least delaying cataract problem. After all, why not prevent the greatest asset of our body which provides us windows to a colorful world.
