Ways to get your Child to Sleep

Getting your child to sleep on time is a tough ask for any parent. There are many kids who refuse to sleep on time or have disrupted sleep patterns, affecting the healthy sleeping patterns of parents too. However, you need to ensure proper sleeping patterns for your child to ensure that your child remains fresh, energetic, healthy and shielded form various ailments. The following tips will help parents to get their children to sleep soundly.

Before going into the tips to help babies have a good sleep, let’s first look at the various sleep patterns of children. Infants are in a habit of often waking up many times at night. Newborns sleep a lot but they can have erratic sleeping episodes. Grown up children can also face sleep troubles like sleep deprivation, night walking, and inability to get a proper sound sleep.

Babies need proper sleep for healthy growth and development. Thus, here are few tips to help your child get proper timely sleep. For babies, you can simply pat them to sleep. However, ensure that there are no disturbances like those caused by light and sound. You can feed your baby, pat them and then put them in a cot with no distraction. Dimming the light can also indicate the child that its time to sleep.

For healthy sleeping patterns of infants and children, you need to develop healthy sleeping patterns. That is to say, establish a sleeping routine in your house. Set up a particular bed time and be soft yet firm on the child. Make them understand the importance of healthy sleeping time and help them follow the age old age of “early to bed, early to rise”. Having a proper sleep helps children to remain fresh and active.

As a parent, inculcate discipline in children, be it for sleeping, eating or waking time. Additionally, ensure your child gets adequate physical activity during the day, so that he feels tired and sleepy by the end of the day. Also set up TV watching times for the child but ensure that TV does not disrupt the sleeping time of the child.

Follow the above given tips and you’ll be able to help your child get a proper and timely sleep, ensuring his healthy growth and development.
