Ways to Deal with Painful Periods

Many women face some or the other problem associated with their menstrual cycle- be it delayed periods, missed and irregular periods, scanty or heavy periods and even painful periods.

The most common problem faced by a majority of women is that of painful periods. Given below are some ways by which you can effectively deal with the problem of painful periods.

Painful periods are characterized by severe and sometimes intolerable cramps, pain in vagina, fatigue, restlessness, mood changes, and head and body aches amongst others. Such kinds of pain lead to a disruption of normal daily routine.

Many women who suffer from painful periods take pain relievers and medications for it. However, such medications are fine for consumption once in a while but regular or frequent consumption of them can lead to further health problems. Thus, it is always advisable to follow the natural way.

If you are suffering from painful periods, then hot water baths and heat pad treatments can help. While this treatment helps in easing menstrual pain, it will not help you in getting rid of it entirely. However, it is still effective for temporary relief.

Essential oils like lavender can provide relief from cramps and pain during periods. Additionally, try to de-stress yourself as stress and anxiety add to menstrual pain. Yoga, meditation and breathing exercises can thus prove effective.

Diet too plays an important role in preventing menstrual pain. Have a well balanced and a nutritional diet so that you provide your body with all essential nutrients. This is because a deficiency of mineral or vitamin can lead to worsening of pain related to periods. In addition to diet, exercise regularly to keep your weight under check. Also give up smoking and drinking as they all aggravate the pain associated with menstrual cycle.
