Warning Signs of Alzheimers

March 19, 2009

We generally associate memory loss with aging. However, don’t take things for granted as memory loss can also be a symptom of the dreaded Alzheimer’s disease. So how do you differentiate between a normal aging process and aging that is accompanied by Alzheimer’s? Well, the answer lies in this article. Read ahead and find out some warning signs of Alzheimer’s so that you are able to detect this problem on time.

A progressive, degenerative disease, Alzheimer’s is a problem that affects the brain and leads to problems like gradual loss of memory and eventual disorientation and loss of self control. While there is no denying the fact that memory loss is also associated with the gradual process of aging, memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s is of a more serious kind. In the normal aging process, you might face difficulty in instantly remembering a phone number or other thing but you will recall it later.

However, with Alzheimer’s, your daily life gets badly affected as you tend to forget things more often than other and also there is a permanent loss of memory of things as you are unable to recall them at a later time.

People with Alzheimer’s usually display gradual deterioration of memory making it difficult for them to perform daily tasks on their own. They tend to become dependent on others. For instance, people with Alzheimer’s might forget what they were doing and in many cases, the person affected loses his way back home when out without assistance. Thus, Alzheimer’s is like an eraser of memory.

Other warning signs of Alzheimer’s include the person facing disorientation with time and place; having problems of understanding and communicating language; gradual loss of cognitive and analytical skills; deteriorating judgment; and eventual lack of self-control. Such people also depict changes in personality and might act in an unexpected manner.

Thus, you should be aware of the various warning signs of Alzheimer’s to recognize the problem form its early stages.
