Vaginal Thrush

March 27, 2009

Many women suffer from the problem of vaginal thrush. Vaginal thrush is a caused by a fungal infection, candida, and can be a result of overgrowth of yeast in the vagina. Let’s look at this problem which affects a majority of women in detail with its causes and symptoms.

As mentioned before, vaginal thrush is caused by yeast overgrowth in the vaginal region. It can also be caused by excessive use of contraceptive pills, antibiotics, and even pregnancy. Uncontrolled diabetes is another cause. If you already have this infection, then certain factors like stress can actually aggravate your condition. Thus, you should always try to stay away from stress as it can hamper the healthy life of a person.

Let’s now look at the various symptoms of this infection. Women suffering from vaginal thrush have a vaginal discharge that is creamy white and cottage cheese kind. However, it can also be watery at times and can lead to feeling of itchiness and discomfort along with redness and pain too. However, it is not necessary that all women will display similar symptoms. Sometimes, women suffering from vaginal thrush might not come to know about it due to its minor and almost negligible symptoms. Also, all kinds of vaginal discharge are not a sign or symptom of vaginal thrush. Thus, you need to get it checked by your doctor.

While the problem of vaginal thrush can be treated by medications and prescribed lotions, there are also some natural remedies that can help you prevent this problem. Do not wear tight fighting undergarments; follow proper personal hygiene; avoid perfumed and colored soaps; and also eat yogurt to naturally prevent the problem of vaginal thrush. If you are suffering from the itch that accompanies this infection, then having a bath in warm salty water can help.
