There are various factors that can trigger panic attacks and a panic attack does not come with a warning- it is sudden and instantaneous. This article will provide a detailed overview of panic attacks- its causes, symptoms, and tips to effectively deal with such attacks.

When a panic attack strikes, the person affected feels himself taken over by an overwhelming sense of fear and terror. This feeling is accompanied by some physical symptoms like breathlessness, sweating, increased heart beat, and also feelings of nausea, lightheadedness, and dizziness. The person suffering from a panic attack feels helpless and trapped. Many times, a panic attack can be mistaken for a heart attack as they can have similar symptoms.

A panic attack can last for a few seconds to a few minutes. There are people who experience a panic attack only once in their life while there are also others who have frequent episodes of panic attack in their life.

There can be various factors that can trigger a panic attack. For instance, a panic attack can occur when a person is extremely stressed or has overload of work. Similarly, a physical trauma, personal grief, fear of a particular thing, and even certain stimulants like caffeine and drugs can trigger a panic attack.

To prevent panic attacks, you need to find out its trigger and try to prevent that. For instance, if caffeine intake triggers a panic attack, then you should avoid caffeinated drinks.

Similarly, practicing de-stressing and relaxation techniques also help. You should also try to avoid excessive stress and physical exertion. There are also certain medications that can help in the treatment of panic attacks.

Thus, understand the symptoms, causes and triggers of a panic attack and use the above given tips to effectively deal with such attacks.
