Traveling while Pregnant

September 18, 2008

The coming of a new life is often anticipated with lots of joy and even fear which in turn gives birth to a lot of myths. One of such myth is the fear of traveling during pregnancy period. While nine months is too long a period to avoid any form of travel, any woman would think twice when it comes to the safety of her child. Thus follow some given tips so that you can travel while ensuring safety of your child.

Unless advised not to travel during pregnancy, most pregnant women can travel safely by following some basic tips. Take some snacks when traveling while air, road or rail. This can help in ensuring that your body is well nourished so that you don’t face pregnancy related discomforts like morning sickness and nausea. Similarly, carry a personal water bottle with you as pregnant women seem to feel more dehydrated and thus their body needs more fluids. Sitting for long time in one position can lead to discomfort like soreness, stiffness and even blood clots. Thus, try taking some break and stretching out when undertaking long journey. Wear comfortable clothes so that the journey does not bring discomfort in terms of attire. Being comfortable is more important than being trendy. Always enquire about the weather of the place you are visiting so that you can properly equip yourself for the trip. Hoping for the best and being prepared for the worst is an intelligent thought. Thus, it is not a bad idea to carry a copy of your prenatal record and documents with you so that you are always prepared for adversities too.

By following the given tips, you can ensure that you travel without worrying too much about the safety of your child as proper care and preventive measures can help in keeping you as well as your child healthy and fit.
