Tips on Post Pregnancy Care

May 16, 2009

postpregnancyThe whole life of a woman changes when she becomes a mother. There is joy and happiness of the coming of a new life coupled with an added responsibility.

Women take special care during the pregnancy period to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy. However, equally important is post pregnancy care and one should not neglect its importance. Given below are some tips on post pregnancy care that can help you out.

Do not overexert your body or get back to work for at least 6 weeks after pregnancy. Your body requires adequate time and rest to rejuvenate, heal, and regain energy. You need to remember that giving birth to a child is like a second birth of the mother too and you thus need to take adequate care of yourself via proper rest and healthy diet.

Pregnancy brings with it loads of hormonal changes and thus there are many women who suffer from baby blues or postpartum depression and mood swings. You need to de-stress yourself and be emotionally strong. Take help of your husband and your near and dear ones to get over this emotional turmoil.

You need to take care of your body parts after pregnancy. Take special care of your breasts as there are women who suffer from breast swelling during feeding the child. You can use ice packs on your breasts for few minutes to reduce the swelling.

If the condition persists or becomes worse, you must consult your doctor. Similarly, keep a check on some symptoms which you might face after pregnancy and if you face them, you must immediately contact your doctor. These symptoms include painful cramps, heavy bleeding or large clots, increasing pain in stitches and even pain while urination.

Keep the above given tips in mind so that along with having a healthy pregnancy, you have an equally healthy and happy post pregnancy life.
