Tips on Buying a Childs Car Seat

November 11, 2008

If you are going to have a baby, you need to ensure you have a child’s car seat in place. A car seat is one piece of equipment you really need to have before your baby is born. When you go to buy a car seat, you need to keep certain parameters in mind, especially the age and weight of your child. You should also ensure that the seat is properly installed for the safety of your child. Given below are certain tips which would help you buy the appropriate child’s car seat.

One usually asks as to what is safest or best seat for your child. Well, there is no particular good or bad seat. A proper car seat is one which fits your child’s height and size and which can be properly installed in your car. Thus a good car seat would be different for every person depending on specific person’s requirements. If your child weighs up to 10 kgs, then your baby needs rear-facing seat. These are known as Group 0 or stage one car seats. There are various features available in markets for infant seats. Several models of infant seats come with detachable base. When you are ready to drive in your car again, you buckle your baby in the seat and lock in the seat to the base. You should avoid car seats that require you to adjust the buckle from the back of the seat. The better car seats allow you to make adjustments from the front and have raised belt slots for buckling ease. Since babies will be babies and will mess up their surroundings, there are many car seats which come with pad covers which can be detached and machine-washed. Most important is the comfort and safety of your child. For the comfort of your child, you should go in for seats which are well-padded with plenty of head and back support. Also do not go in for cheap or poor quality car seats as the safety of the child should be the primary criterion.
