Pomegranate is slowly gaining the badge of being a super healthy fruit as it is very popular amongst health conscious crowd. This is because of the various long term health benefits which are associated with eating a pomegranate or with drinking its juice. Pomegranates contain folic acid, Vitamin C and numerous antioxidants which provide its consumers with numerous health benefits like preventing them from Alzheimer’s disease, heart problems, aging, arthritis and it also helps in protecting unborn babies from brain injuries.

According to a research, pomegranates have a beneficial effect on heart diseases and strokes as it helps in lowering of ‘bad’ cholesterol or LDL. In addition, regular drinking of pomegranate juice can help to reduce the size of atherosclerotic lesions, which narrow the arteries and cause heart failure. It is also beneficial in treating fertility problems and those pertaining to blood pressure. In the recent past, scientists have discovered the usefulness of pomegranate in treating prostate cancer and osteoarthritis. This is because of the high level of flavenoids present in it which help in neutralizing cancer causing free radicals.

Pomegranates possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and they aid in strengthening of the immune system along with aiding in wound repair. They can also help in fighting osteoporosis as they help in slowing down the deterioration of cartilage.

Expecting mothers should make it a point to add pomegranate juice in their diet as it has been found that the latter can protect the unborn babies from brain defects which may be caused from low oxygen or reduced blood flow.

Apart from its numerous health benefits, it also aids in maintaining a smooth and a healthy skin. Most importantly, the antioxidants in Pomegranate can help to prevent premature aging as they help in slowing down the formation of wrinkles in one’s skin. In addition, scientists have also found that eating of pomegranates can be beneficial in protecting oneself from skin cancer. Hence, pomegranates have rightly earned the badge of being a super fruit as they not only provide numerous health benefits, but also aid in the beautification of a person.
