The Nutritional Power of Spinach

March 18, 2009

We all know that the power of Popeye rested on the green, leafy vegetable known as spinach. But how many of us have actually tried to incorporate Popeye’s power in our life? Unfortunately, not many. You might love your favorite characters gaining powerful energy while eating spinach; but when it comes to our eating this green vegetable, most of us, especially children, simply refuse to eat.

Why? Just because we prefer the taste satisfying junk food in place of nutritional green veggies. However, this article will explore the various nutritional power of spinach to highlight its importance in the day to day life of every person.

Spinach is known as “power food”, not only in fictional cartoons, but also in real life. This is because of its high nutritional content which provides various health benefits to a person. It is a powerhouse of all the essential nutrients, be it vitamins, proteins, minerals, flavonoids and antioxidants. Right from vitamins like vitamin A to important nutrients like iron, calcium, folate and others, can be found naturally in spinach. This nutritional richness further helps in keeping the mind and body of a person in a healthy condition.

You must have often heard your mothers talking about how eating spinach can keep your eyes healthy. But like most of the children, you too might have not paid heed to it. And if you are right now sitting with big spectacles on, then you must remember those golden words. After all, spinach plays an important role in keeping your eyes healthy and fit. This is particularly due to the important phytonutrients present in it.

Along with keeping your eyes healthy, the nutritional richness of spinach helps in preventing anemia, prevents cataracts and macular degeneration, prevents osteoporosis and also helps in the prevention and treatment of tumors and even cancers. Thus, include this healthy green vegetable in your life to live a happy and a healthy life.
