Teeth Discoloration in Toddlers
Many parents are worried about the stained, yellow and even gray teeth of their toddlers? Teeth discoloration is a common problem faced by toddlers and is primarily due to the neglect of oral health of the child. Given below are the causes, symptoms and treatment of this problem.
Along with poor dental hygiene, factors like food stains, past infections, exposure to early tooth decay and germs, medications, and even trauma to the mouth lead to teeth discoloration in toddlers. Also, exposure to certain vitamins like iron can lead to this problem. Some blood and liver diseases can also lead to teeth discoloration. Usually, parents are too preoccupied with overall health of the toddler, that they often neglect oral health. But, remember this health is equally important so that your child has a healthy and a sparkling smile, not a stained one. If you want to ensure that your child is free of dental blemishes, then pay due attention to his oral hygiene. Take care of his teeth from the beginning itself, even if it implies taking care of milk and temporary teeth. Teach your child healthy oral habits of brushing properly and washing mouth thoroughly after meals to remove food stains. If your child has the problem of teeth discoloration, then you can treat it at home itself, provided it is not caused by an underlying dental or health problem. You should first clean off teeth stains by baking soda and water or simply by the use of adult toothpaste. However, if this home remedy does not solve the problem, then you should consult a dentist as then, your toddler’s teeth discoloration might be an indication of some extensive dental issue. Thus, as a parent, you should take proper care of your toddler’s oral health to help him display a sparkling and captivating smile.
