Zayane is a brand new and exciting Moroccan restaurant recently launched, just off Portobello Road, London!
In the heart of Notting Hill and with a modern and luxurious vibe to the place, I was half expecting a Westernized and watered down menu, but the chefs at Zayane have created nothing of the sort! Each dish was strong, flavorsome and exquisitely presented (you get extra house points for presentation in my book!)
The staff were so friendly, making the whole dining experience fun and relaxing. The place had a great ambiance and felt so homely – even with mirrored cushions and some very interesting artwork in the toilets (last pic) which is just what you want for a chilled out lunch.
The dishes certainly made for some envy-inducing Instagram pics! Each were so packed with color and flavor it was hard to decide what it was more of a treat for; my tastebuds or eyes! From the variety of dips through to the lobster and lamb mains, I probably should have eaten less but when it looks and tastes this good it would have been cruel to deny oneself! The Zayane Platter (for two) was an absolute delight; zealous, chakchouka, beans in tomato, chickpeas and salmon terrine. The Lamb Mechoui also deserves special recognition for the way it simply fell apart in mouth watering strips.
Even the Butter Poached Lobster was an eye catching dish and tasted simply gorgeous, although being lobster tail I have to note there wasn’t too much lobster to be had. The Chicken Tagine (below) is also a nice little special to share as a starter or side. Just the right sized serving so you can get a variety of tastes in your lunch sitting.
So when it came to desert – and yes, I ate desert… two if I’m being entirely honest – I needed to cleanse my palate before diving into Zayane’s decadent Chocolate Delice. So an authentic pot of Moroccan mint tea was in order and, sweet Lord, it was the most delicious fresh mint tea I have ever tasted. In fact, if I hadn’t been on such a mission, that could have sufficed as desert! Refreshing and just the right side of sweet, it hit the spot!
So if taste explosions are your thing with a side order of friendly service in a hip yet welcoming venue, then you’ll do well to head on over to Zayane for lunch, afternoon tea, evening meal or Sunday Brunch! Take your pick, the good people of Zayane have got it covered!
