Symptoms of Appendicitis

November 27, 2008

An inflammation of appendix is medically termed as appendicitis. It is a problem associated with severe pain in the stomach and is caused due to some blockage in the inside of the appendix. Given below are some symptoms by which are commonly associated with appendicitis and which should be immediately diagnosed, when discovered.

The main symptom of appendicitis is severe pain in the abdominal region. Many people feel the pain first near the belly button and then it moves to the lower right side of the belly. It is not necessary that your pain will be severe as you can also have consistent mild to moderate pain in your belly region. However, this pain usually increases over a period of six to twelve hours. Moreover, the muscles on the right side of the stomach become tense and rigid. Also, coughing and sneezing can make the pain worse. The appendicitis-inflicted person may also have a mild fever varying from 100° to 102°f. Nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite are other symptoms associated with appendicitis. You might also suffer from constipation, back pain and feeling of fullness. While these are common and general symptoms associated with appendicitis, it is not necessary that you experience all these symptoms. Also, these symptoms can also be associated with other problems but because appendicitis can become a serious problem if not treated on time, it is always advisable to consult a doctor whenever you feel these given symptoms.

The most common treatment of appendicitis includes surgical removal of the appendix so as to prevent it from rupturing and spreading infection to the other parts of the abdomen. However, there are some natural treatments available. But the main point is to understand the given symptoms and get yourself checked if you feel the same.
