Symptoms of a Panic Attack

March 9, 2009

In today’s modern world, where levels of stress and strain are on an increasing high, panic and anxiety attacks are growing in number. But what exactly is a panic attack? Panic attacks refer to instances when feeling of terror and anxiety reaches extreme high levels in a person and the person suddenly feels surrounded by feelings of intense fear and unnecessary worry. Stress is one of the major trigger for a panic attack. Given below are some of the common symptoms of panic attack.

When you suffer from a panic attack, you experience symptoms like increased heart beat, something which happens after an intense workout. The heartbeats suddenly start racing and even skipping. Some people also experience chest pain and discomfort along with pounding heartbeats and palpitation, making people think they are suffering from a heart attack.

Panic attacks bring with it a number of symptoms. Along with the above given symptoms, panic attacks are also characterized by loss of breath and difficulty in breathing, nervous shaking and trembling of a person as he gets caught by unknown terror and anxiety. The person affected experiences varying emotions of fear, fright, and anxiety at the same time. Headaches, nausea and sweating are some other symptoms of panic attack. Some people also display symptoms like chills or hot flashes and numbness or a tingling like feeling in some portions of the body.

While panic attacks have duration of 10 to 30 minutes, they leave their side-effects for a much longer time. That is to say, people experiencing panic attacks are left frightened and shaken even after the attack is over. However, panic attacks can be easily controlled naturally through exercise, especially breathing exercises and meditation, and through a healthy diet. Finding the trigger of your panic attacks is essential for eliminating the root cause of the problem.
