Sugar Substitutes

September 3, 2009

sugarA diabetic person often finds his life devoid of any sweetness. Sugar is like poison for a diabetic person but there are ways by which a diabetic person can fill sweetness in his life.

This is through the use of sugar substitutes.

Using natural sugar substitutes, a diabetic person can enjoy the sweet taste of his dishes and yet control his blood sugar levels. Sugar substitutes are also beneficial for people who are looking for ways of reducing weight.

Sugar leads to weight gain and it is for this reason that people who go on a dieting have to stay away from sweet products.

However, using sugar substitutes, you can have your favorite cookies and sweet dishes and still maintain high fitness and health level. This is because sugar substitutes are low in calorie content. However, to remain completely healthy and fit, you need a healthy diet and a regular exercise too.

Stevia is a common natural sweetener which offers taste as well as numerous health advantages.

It is free of the dreaded calories and does not lead to growing waistline or decaying tooth. In addition, it is extremely beneficial for diabetic people as it helps them to enjoy sweet dishes without elevating their blood sugar levels.

Apart from stevia, there are also many other sugar substitutes that can replace refined sugar, thereby preventing you from the latter’s negative health effects. These sugar substitutes include agave nectar, Xylitol and Splenda amongst others.

Maple syrup is another good replacement or substitute for sugar. This sweet syrup is high in nutrient value and is not harmful for your teeth, figure, or blood sugar.

Sugar substitutes are gaining popularity as they offer you taste without health danger. However, sugar substitutes are not completely free of blame.

The common sugar substitute, Saccharine, was in controversy for a long time as it had been linked with increasing chances of cancer. Thus, using sugar substitute is an individual’s own choice and is primarily determined by his health condition.
