Suffering from Chronic Headache? Find out Why

October 8, 2008

Everyone suffers from headaches sometime or the other in life; but when these headaches become chronic and regular part of your life, then you need to investigate the reasons behind it so as to eradicate it. Chronic headaches do not necessarily imply some serious disorder, but treating them is essential to live a healthy life. Given below are certain common causes which lead to chronic headaches.

Headaches can be a real obstacle in the normal functioning of the body as the pain they cause can disrupt the normal day-to-day activities of a person. A majority of headaches are caused by allergies, misalignment of the spine and also due to stress and tension. Allergies to food and pollen are the prime factors for chronic headaches and such headaches can be easily prevented by understanding the cause so as to treat it. If you find that you get headaches after eating some particular thing, then stop its intake. While the foods that can bring on headaches vary from person to person, some of the most common foods known to bring on headaches include any type of alcohol, aged cheese, and chocolate. Also, foods that are pickled in brine can bring on headaches, as well as a few ingredients found in many products: MSG, aspartame, and caffeine. Similarly, people who are under a lot of stress, either personal or professional, are most affected by almost daily headaches which can greatly hamper the smooth functioning of life. Chronic stress can also lead to shallow breathing, high blood pressure and also raised heart rate. Certain illness like high blood pressure and depression can also contribute towards chronic headaches. In women, hormones play a major role in headaches and they are often caused prior to or after menstrual cycles.

While there are certain kinds of headaches which need medication and treatment, there are also others like those caused by food allergies, which can be treated by stopping that particular food’s consumption. Thus, understand the reason behind your headache so that you can effectively treat it to lead a comfortable and a healthy life.
