Stroke in Teenagers

July 1, 2009

strokestroke is a serious and a fatal problem that is affecting young people too. The growing stress and strain of today’s fast paced world combined with an unhealthy lifestyle are the main reasons for the surprisingly growing number of young adults and teenagers being affected by the problem of stroke.

In an attempt to look cool and trendy, teenagers these days adopt the wrong path of life and often indulge in smoking, drinking and drug abuse. This in turn makes them vulnerable to serious health complications including stroke.

Marijuana is one such dangerous drug that often leads to blood clotting and stroke. However, due to peer pressure and in a vain attempt to portray themselves as fashionable, teenagers often indulge in such harmful drug abuse.

Usually when we think of stroke, the first thing that comes to mind is the deposition of fats in the arteries leading to blockage and finally to this dreaded problem of strokes.

However, a stroke in teenagers and even children is not necessarily a result of arteries blockage. It can be caused by congenital problems as there are some children who are born with a problem of clotting system and other congenital abnormalities.

Understanding the problem of stroke is necessary to prevent it. Stress too is a major cause of this problem and thus, you must ensure that you don’t allow stress to disrupt your healthy life.

In addition, as a parent, you must help your child not get into bad habits due to peer pressure. Leading a healthy lifestyle is imperative to healthy living and for prevention of strokes and other problems.

You should eat healthy and exercise regularly to have a healthy heart. After all, the problem of stroke is not age related; it can affect people of all ages.
