Social anxiety disorder or social phobia is a condition in which a person develops a fear of social situations and avoids socializing. It is a kind of psychological problem, in which the person a Social anxiety disorder or social phobia is a condition in which a person develops a fear of social situations and avoids socializing. It is a kind of psychological problem, in which the person affected suffers from poor self image, lacks confidence and self esteem, and is extremely tensed while attending any kind of social function. Such people in fact go to the extreme of avoiding any kind of socializing activity.

People who suffer from social anxiety disorder have a fear of social situations. They avoid going out in front of a large group of people as they have a fear of being watched and evaluated by people. This anxiety in turn is a result of low self esteem and people affected feel embarrassed of being seen and judged in social gatherings.

There are times when you feel scared and tensed of certain social situations like speaking in front of a large gathering or eating with strangers. However, feeling tensed occasionally is not a sign of social anxiety disorder. Social phobia is said to exist when a person has a constant fear of all kinds of social functions and gatherings.

Let’s look at some of the common symptoms that are associated with social anxiety disorder. A person suffering from social phobia will display symptoms like sweaty palms, increased heartbeats, trembling of hands and legs, nausea, and even dizziness.
