Skipping
Skipping a rope is one of the best workouts to improve one’s fitness level, agility, coordination, speed, balance and general health. Being a high-impact activity, skipping helps in efficient building of bones and toning of thighs, hips and calves. Skipping is especially helpful for women as it helps in increasing the calcium level of one’s body thereby reducing the risk of osteoporosis. It also promotes emotional and mental fitness by helping in relaxing and de-stressing one’s mind.
Jumping a rope aids in the workout of one’s cardiovascular muscles and is often compared to jogging. However, unlike jogging and running, there is a less impact on one’s joints during skipping. Since it involves an overall workout of the body, Skipping helps in improving the functioning of one’s heart and lungs along with increasing one’s stamina, flexibility, coordination, rhythm and overall fitness level. It has also been found beneficial in lowering one’s blood pressure and cholesterol level thereby aiding in the optimal functioning of the heart.
As compared to other forms of exercise and workouts, skipping aids in a faster burning of fats and calories along with aiding in muscle toning. This is because skipping involves a unique mix of high and low moves which ensures that one’s heart rate stays within fat burning zone which is also known as the Target Heart Rate Zone. It has been found that many professional footballers, boxers, swimmers, skiers, tennis players, martial artists, rugby players and many more use skipping as part of their daily workout routine to improve stamina, footwork skill and to lose weight. Thus, every school should include skipping as a part of fitness regime as it has been found that skipping plays an important role in protection against childhood obesity. Moreover, it plays an important role in developing the confidence of a child as nothing feels better than having a strong, healthy and a fit body.
