Right way of doing stretches for treating calf-muscle pain

July 19, 2008

No doubt, stretching exercises do wonders in treating muscle pain. But it is very important that you do your stretches in a perfect way. The calf muscle pain can vanish in few sessions, if proper stretching is carried out. Here are some the tips that can help you in doing stretches in right way.

First of all position yourself near the wall or something sturdy that can support your weight.

Now place your left foot a couple inches from the wall. Make sure you bent your leg in such a way that it makes a 45 degree angle.

Move your right leg away from wall slowly. Make sure you keep your right leg straight and now go back as far as you feel comfortable to get a good stretch of the calf muscle. Keep in mind that you do not feel any pain during stretching your leg. The intensity of the stretch is determined by how far your back leg is. Make sure you do not overstretch your calf muscle otherwise you may suffer from additional muscle pain. The bottom line is –just stretch in the right way.

Don’t forget to keep your both feet flat on the floor, as you try to lean into the wall surface. Do not move from this position. Hold on to this leaning position for about thirty to forty seconds.

After relaxing for two to three minutes, bend your right leg slightly, lean and stretch again. This kind of stretching will work for a deeper muscle in your calf.

After completing the first session of your stretches, relax for few minutes before repeating the same stretches with your left leg. After the break of five to ten minutes, put your left leg back and do the stretches.
