Right way of applying ice to get relive from back pain

July 11, 2008

Ever thought of that even ice- cubes can do wonder in treating your back pain. But confused about the right way for applying ice? Then here’s the solution.

You can either use a commercial ice pack, that can be purchased from market or make one on your own of your choice. For preparing it, take a clean cloth, place some ice cubes into it. You can also place an ice pack into cloth. Now secure the cloth for making it ready to use.

Now, position the ice on your back. Either hold the ice on the spot or prop it so that it remains on the spot without any movement that cause you discomfort and uneasiness.

Just make sure you leave the ice on your back only for twenty minutes not more than that. This is because leaving the ice on the affected area for a longer time can cause more additional damage to your back pain injury.

It would be better if you wait for an hour before another application of same.

If you panning to use ice as your course for treating back pain, then repeat the process for two consecutive days in the same above manner. Take an hour break between your icing periods and then reapply.

If you feel ice packs are too cold on your back injury, moist the cloth in a lukewarm water for easing your discomfort.

It is important to remember that you ice your back only for first 48 hours following an injury. If you still feel pain and discomfort after the application, then go for some heating options for same to get some relief. In extreme cases, don’t just stick to your home treatments; consult your healthcare experts for curing back pain.
