Precautions to be taken while using pressure cooker

Undoubtedly millions of people around the world make use of pressure cooking for cooking their meals. But it is very much important that pressure cooker should be safely used so that you can reduce the chances of mis-happenings, as it is bit dangerous to cook food in pressure cookers. Read this article below, it will guide you on some safety tips measures that you can always keep in mind while preparing food in pressure cookers.

Always make sure that you do not place the pressure cooker in a heated oven.

Extreme caution must be used when moving a pressure cooker containing hot liquids.

Always keep in mind that this appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in scalding injury. Make certain unit is properly closed before operating.

Always check that the vent tube is clear immediately before closing the lid for pressure cooking.

When starting to pressure cook, close the lid without the vent weight in position on the vent tube. Place the vent weight on the vent tube only after steam starts to come out of the vent tube steadily.

Always place water as indicated in each recipe (or one cup for every 10 minutes of pressure cooking time) in the pressure cooker body before pressure cooking.

Do not cook foods such as applesauce, cranberries, pearl barley, oatmeal or other cereals, spilt peas, noodles, macaroni, rhubarb, or spaghetti. These foods tend to foam, froth, and splutter, and may block the pressure release device.

Never lift vent weight for reducing pressure in the case of liquid or frothing foods.

Never attempt to force the pressure cooker open. Do not open the pressure cooker until the unit has cooled and internal pressure has been reduced.

Do not use the pressure cooker for pressure frying with oil.
