January 2, 2009

All the fitness freaks are well aware about the numerous benefits of power walking. Also known as speed walking, power walking is an intermediate between walking and jogging. Power walking occurs at a fast speed, a speed at which people usually start jogging. It is a great way to keep yourself fit and enhance your overall health. Given below are some tips which will come handy while power walking.

Power walking is a great aerobic activity which not only burns calories, but also strengthens and firms muscles, especially of the upper region of the body. While you are undertaking the healthy power walking, follow certain safety and healthy tips. Keep a check on your posture. You should have a good posture, walk tall and keep your look forward. Chins up, chest raised and shoulders relaxed is the perfect position. In the beginning, don’t overstrain yourself as then you put yourself at risk of injury. Slowly increase your walking pace and use your arms to pump yourself forward. You should take smaller steps in the beginning and slowly increase your stride. Don’t try everything at first; it will only harm your muscles. While power walking, make sure that you bend your elbows to 90 degrees. Also, as you walk, breathe normally and also try taking long, deep breaths to enhance oxygen and blood supply throughout the body. All these small things can greatly help you to begin power walking in the right way. Also, right selection of clothes and more importantly, shoes is essential to enjoy power walking comfortably and safely. Choose clothes that are comfortable and shoes of good quality and perfect size. Correct pairs of shoes help in taking your body’s weight and are thus essential while undertaking the healthy activity of power walking. Thus, follow these simple tips and walk towards a healthy and a fit life.
