Overcoming Childbirth Fears
The period of pregnancy is filled with mixed emotions as along with feeling immense joy on the coming new life, most women also have an underlying fear of the whole process of childbirth. The fears in an expecting woman’s mind can range from the safety of the child to labor pain and to risks associated with C-sections. While this care and concern is natural, the problem comes when this fear reaches extreme heights and acts as a hindrance in the peaceful and healthy life of a person. Thus, one should try to dispel all their doubts and fears and enjoy the beautiful phase of pregnancy.
The major fear which affects pregnant women is the fear of labor pain. One should remember that excess of fear and anxiety can actually increase the pain and complications associated with childbirth. Thus, one should consider this pain as a natural process for which one’s body is designed as well as prepared. Taking undue tension can only add to the problem and make matters worse. To relax and de-stress oneself, one can indulge in the healthy and beneficial activity of yoga and meditation which helps in the harnessing of positive energy along with helping in the building up of confidence and positive attitude. Moreover, yogic asanas designed for pregnant women can also help in actually easing off the pain which is associated with the whole process of childbirth.
Many a times, fear and anxiety is caused by ignorance and misinformation. It is always better to clarify all your doubts from a doctor and avoid indulging in gossip which can lead to false and misguiding information. Instead of continuously thinking about labor pain and alternatives of surgeries, one should divert one’s mind in fruitful activities to keep such false anxieties and fears at bay. While many drugs and medicines are also available for the treatment of childbirth fears and phobia, it is always better to naturally get out of this problem through support of near and dear ones and through your own self belief, faith and confidence.
