Orthorexia Nervosa
Are you afraid of gulping down any food item which has little bit of fat in it? Are you too much obsessed with righteous eating that you have forgotten how to enjoy food and its delicacies?
Many women these days are getting obsessed with the rising popularity of a pencil thin image or the popular “zero-size” that another kind of eating disorder has taken birth. This kind of eating disorder with extreme focus on perfect eating and continuous wastage of hours in deciding about a perfect diet is termed as Orthorexia nervosa.
Orthorexia nervosa is not that serious a problem like anorexia nervosa but it has many drawbacks and it also borders on morphing into a serious health and psychological eating problem. This is because people who suffer from Orthorexia nervosa continuously think about perfect, right and healthy eating habits that food for them becomes like an obsession and not something one enjoys and relishes.
Along with being overly obsessed with your eating habits, orthorexics run the danger of other health disorders. This is because people who think so much about healthy eating and fat free foods can easily turn anorexic leading to nutritional deficiencies and problems arising from it. In an attempt to gain and retain their perfect pencil like figures, nutritional deficiencies arise as a result of lack of intake of a well balanced diet.
Orthorexia nervosa is more of a psychological problem as such people become so much self-righteous and obsessed when it comes to eating, that they alienate themselves from social circles. Also, a feeling of guilt arises whenever they stay away from their perfect diet.
Such people need psychological counseling to help them overcome this healthy eating obsession as following the path of extreme is always dangerous and comes attached with various psychological, emotional, social, and even health problems.
