Natural Ways to Control Cholesterol
With a rise in level of bad cholesterol, a person moves more closer to various cardiovascular disorders. Cholesterol is not entirely bad, but every thing has its limit and if that limit is overstepped, then it leads to various ailments. While cholesterol is important for building of cell membranes, hormones and vitamin D; it has a limit as excess of cholesterol implies hypertension, heart ailments and even strokes. Thus, the question arises of maintaining a balance of good cholesterol in the body with minimum quantity of bad cholesterol. Instead of relying on medications, follow some natural means of staying healthy and fit.
The best natural way of controlling cholesterol in the body is by healthy eating. When you are detected with high LDL cholesterol and low HDL factor, then doctors generally prescribe a statin drug. Instead of making your life dependent on medications, you can try the natural route of healthy eating and exercise. Limit your dietary cholesterol and limit your daily intake of saturated fats. Similarly, eliminate all Trans’ fat, spicy, oily and fatty food. Instead you should increase your intake of omega-3-fatty acids which are found naturally in salmon, walnuts and flaxseed oil amongst others. These help in lowering triglycerides along with helping in raising the level of good HDL cholesterol. Eating a daily bowl of oatmeal is another effective way of controlling your cholesterol level. Similarly, following a vegetarian diet, with intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, and low-fat dairy products can be effective in this direction.
In addition to diet, you need a complementing effort from exercise. It has been found that vigorous exercises which increase your heart rate and help you in sweating it out can help raise HDL levels. If you can’t indulge in heavy exercising, at least exercise regularly and take support from other means like yoga to enhance your overall health.
