Natural Cure for Anemia

July 22, 2008

Anemia is the most common blood disorder which involves a decrease in the quantity of red blood cells in the body. An anemic patient usually suffers from problems like weakness, fatigue, dizziness, irritability, confusion, recurring colds and infections and various other problems which are associated with a shortage of blood in the body. Anemia can be caused due to low formation of blood cells in the body or due to heavy blood loss through injuries or during menstruation. It is due to this reason that women are at a higher risk of developing the problem of anemia due to their heavy blood loss during menstrual cycles. There are natural and home made remedies available which can help in curing this problem of anemia.

The basic requirement demands that one increases one’s intake of iron through consuming iron-rich food items. This can be simply achieved by eating 2-3 apples daily. In addition, vitamin B12 is essential for the prevention as well as cure of anemia. This vitamin is usually found in animal protein, especially in organic meats like kidney and liver, but there are also some dairy products available which have in them this important vitamin. Pregnant women should avoid the intake of liver due to the excessive presence of vitamin A which can lead to an increased risk in birth defects. Instead, eating of green leafy vegetables, grains and pulses can promote the absorption of iron from non-meat sources. One should also avoid the intake of tea or coffee as they hinder with the iron absorption by the body.

Beets are very useful in bringing about an effective cure of anemia. Due to its high iron content, it helps in the fast formation of red blood cells which in turn helps in curing people from the problem of anemia. Honey has been called as a natural healer and its high content of iron, copper and manganese helps in healing anemia by promoting the building of hemoglobin in the body. Other food items like spinach, soybean, almonds sesame seeds and fenugreek leaves can also aid in curing anemia by promoting the growth of red blood cells in the body. A simple and nutritious diet can play a major role in preventing and curing anemia and other health problems.
