The basic requirement demands that one increases one’s intake of iron through consuming iron-rich food items. This can be simply achieved by eating 2-3 apples daily. In addition, vitamin B12 is essential for the prevention as well as cure of anemia. This vitamin is usually found in animal protein, especially in organic meats like kidney and liver, but there are also some dairy products available which have in them this important vitamin. Pregnant women should avoid the intake of liver due to the excessive presence of vitamin A which can lead to an increased risk in birth defects. Instead, eating of green leafy vegetables, grains and pulses can promote the absorption of iron from non-meat sources. One should also avoid the intake of tea or coffee as they hinder with the iron absorption by the body.
