Making Scents at Home

October 29, 2008

Everyone wants to have a pleasant and pleasing aroma in their house. But this does not imply that you have to spend a bounty for buying scents and perfumes from the plethora of products available in markets. Instead, you can make scents at your home which are natural and can be easily made at home. Given below are some ways by which you can make scents at home.

Perfumed candles and room sprays and fresheners are a great way to keep your house in a pleasant condition. However, there are also ways by which these scents can be created at home. You can make a potpourri for your home by combining a cup of red rose petals, a half cup of pink rose petals, a half cup of white rose petals, a quarter cup of chamomile flowers, a half cup of crushed statice in blue or white, a quarter cup of eucalyptus leaves, a quarter cup of oak moss and a couple dozen drops of rose oil. You then need to gently stir everything except the rose oil in large bowl. Drop in rose oil and stir gently once again. Line a brown paper bag with wax paper and place the mixture in the bag. Seal bag well and place in a cool, dark area for a couple of weeks. Every day, you should shake the mixture well without opening the bag. After a couple of days, place it in a bowl or vase for the perfect fragrance.

You can also make natural scents at home by putting water in an uncovered pot along with your choice of spices. Just make sure to use fresh spices as powdered ones can become muddy. Bring the water with spices to a boil and reduce heat to low. When the water has evaporated down to about 1 cup, strain the herbs and pour into a glass spray bottle. Your natural home scent is ready.
