Low Calorie Snacks

February 9, 2009

How many times do you open your refrigerator or visit the pantry to find something to munch? Most of us are in a habit of munching before, after and between meals. However, this habit can lead to some unwanted weight gain which not just comes with extra fat but also brings along various ailments like those of the heart. However, this does not imply that all snacks are unhealthy. Snacks can be healthy too and one just needs to make the right choice to embark on the healthy route of life.

Whenever one thinks about snacks, the first thing that comes to mind is fried and highly oily snacks. One needs to resist this temptation as it is an unhealthy option and can lead to various health problems for people of all age group. If you want to binge on snacks, then adopt the low calorie ones which are filling yet healthy.  Snacks don’t necessarily have to be deep fried; they can be roasted, baked, steamed, boiled and cooked in various healthy ways. Whatever you have for snack, you should ensure it is without oil and without unwanted countless calories.

Instead of grabbing a packet of potato chips or a box of chocolates, you can adopt the healthy way of eating fresh fruits and vegetables as snacks. Surprised? Most of us never think of fruits when we talk about snacks. However, fruit salads are a great way of fulfilling one’s in-between hunger without posing any risk to one’s health. Fresh fruits and vegetables can thus be included as a part of healthy low calorie snacks. Similarly, green salads, non-fat yogurt and protein bars are health snack items.

The next time you feel hungry between meals and think about munching something, remember the golden rule of low calorie snacks to remain healthy, fit, and in shape.
