I was in the studio yesterday – I love saying that – recording my new Classical Crossover demo.
Yep, it’s time to move over Katherine Jenkins, there’s a new Diva on the block and she’s been in the studio!! (Sorry, I’ll stop it now!) I’ve had a few amateur recording experiences which haven’t turned out so well so was starting to panic when along came the stars that are Apple Bean Studios! The Recording Studio is based in Wood Green, London, and run by Darren and Paul, the friendliest blokes in the biz, who put me at ease right away.
Let me tell you, getting up and singing in front of someone you’ve only just met can be rather daunting – a bit like an audition that has to be note perfect! But the whole atmosphere at Apple Beam Studios is so relaxed, I was up and recording within 10 minutes of arriving! Within 2 hours, Paul (pictured here with me), who I call
The Magic Music Man, had recorded, mixed and mastered 2 songs – which I’m told is pretty good going! And the result?
I LOVE IT! My classical cover of Alanis Morrisett’s “Uninvited” came out amazingly – you can see for yourself and have a listen at
MySpace.com/HayleyNolanMusic.
I love Apple Beam Recording Studios so much I’m definitely going back to record some more – I could have my own album at this rate! And at only £35 per hour, where they can also create your own songs from scratch even, it’s an absolute steal!
LOVE IT!
While I was there, I had to tell Paul about my latest find, as it was causing me some fraction of agony! The Sanctuary’s Extreme Lip Plump Gloss. I had to say something as, throughout my recording sesh, my lips were on fire! As wonderfully promising these Lip Plumping Glosses sound, they don’t half hurt! They all require stinging your lips into a state of distress so they swell up. Well mine sting and burn…but have yet to swell! It’s the same when I tried DuWop’s Lip Venom, which at £14 hurt more than the cinamon mixture itself. At least The Sanctuary was on offer for only £1.88 (only on certain shades!) However, I am optimistic, it says you have to put it on 3 times a day for 30 days for a longer lasting result. So I shall try to keep that up and report back later. I can imagine this might work over a period of time, as my gorgeous cousin has been using Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme Kit for some years and her lips have now plumped up permenantly. Which is what I’m aiming for! So this one is a bit of a LOVE IT/ HATE IT!
And as I write, a bit of breaking news is sweeping the world (not sure the whole world cares, but the UK certainly does) and that is that Girls Aloud and X Factor star Cheryl Cole has finally split from her cheating, good-for-nothing footballer husband Ashley Cole! Ashley, if you’re not already up to date on your celeb gossip, has been in the press over recent years – and recent weeks – with a string of allegations about his affairs with other women. And for years we women have been tearing our hair out, willing her to leave the scumbag and yes, finally, she has! Girl Power! It has to be one of my LOVE IT’s for the week! As for Ashley Cole, I think I speak for women (and men) everywhere when I say: HATE HIM, DON’T RATE HIM! So not cool, Ashley!
But to end on a positive note – Hey it’s Award Season! There have been some wonderful moments, like
Pink’s “Arial Performance” at the Grammy’s. I’ve been debating with friends as to whether she mimed whilst being spun upside down by her feet (I say she did!)
See it here. Of course anything the US can do, we Brits can do…in our own way! Not sure if
Cheryl Cole’s storming performance at the BRIT’s tops that but it’s a damn good try,
see here! Then of course there’s our version of the Oscars…the
BAFTA’s. Now I know we Brits like to do things slightly more Artsy than our ostentacious counterparts across the pond but honestly…the 2010 BAFTA’s were the most boring I’d ever experienced! The only highlight was
Colin Firth’s acceptance speech! And as a testament to the ceremony, no one has put any clips on YouTube so far…so you can’t see Colin’s winning moment! Sorry!
Well, that just about wraps things up! Family are currently listening to my new tracks on a loop and I can’t think – let alone think and write!! So see you next week, peeps!
