Located in Southeast Asia, many tourists flock to Indonesia yearly. Indonesia touches Sumatra in the west and Irian Jaya in the east.
It is comprised of the Greater Sunda Islands, the Smaller Sunda Islands and East Indonesia. The largest island, Sumatra is located in the Greater Sunda Islands.
Three of the world’s largest islands are found in Indonesia. There are five main islands in Indonesia. They are Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Irian Jaya.
The republic of Indonesia is run by an elected parliament government. Its capital is Jakarta. The country of Indonesia is the fourth largest in the world based on its population.
Indonesia is known to the locals as Tanah Air Kita which translates into Our Land and Water. The country’s slogan is “Unity in Diversity”. Indonesia is predominately Muslim.
Indonesia is a land rich in history and attractions. Tourists come to Indonesia to enjoy the beautiful beaches.
Visitors are introduced to a bevy of fascinating images such as some of the world’s rarest animals. You can find miniature deer and fish that climb trees. It is also where the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard, lives.
Indonesia is situated in the West Pacific’s “Ring of Fire” where over four hundred volcanoes are active. Indonesia’s Java Island is where the first ape-man resided.
A skull from this species was found preserved in ice. Human like fossils and relics are on display at The Santiran Early Man Site. This location is known as the World Heritage Site.
Puncak Jaya is the highest mountain point in Indonesia. It is found in Papua, New Guinea. The island of Papua, New Guinea as well as the island of Borneo are two of the world’s largest islands. The island nation of Indonesia was first visited by the famous European explorer named Marco Polo.
