Irritated by rough and patchy skin post waxing or shaving? Read this out!

August 13, 2008

Remember the time you got your leg and hands waxed expecting to get that smooth glowing finish but what you ended up with was a dry, patchy rough skin. Here’s what you can do to avoid this situation.

No doubt waxing is temporary, effective and causes minimum amount of discomfort. It’s a much better option than shaving as it makes skin smooth and removes dead cells too. But you should always use a non-oily pre-softening lotion that softens your hair and make waxing less painful while smoothening your skin. We have often heard about rough and dry skin patches post waxing sessions. For this, you can always use an antiseptic gel or a lotion; preferably that contains tea tree or lavender oil. This will provide you with soft and smooth skin texture. If you are worried about parched skin, rub pumice stone on those areas to smoothen away your problems. You can use a salt scrub to prevent ugly bumps from appearing on the skin every time the hair grows back.

Shaving is a painless, non –messy procedure for hair removal, specially applied by women working on tight schedules. It cuts the hair straight but does not remove it from the roots, thus leading to faster hair growth. Make sure you use a pre-softening solution before shaving otherwise your skin will end up looking like a drought-stricken land. Our skin is sensitive and constant shaving can leave it dry and making it prone to ingrown hair. Therefore, make moisturizing an important part of your daily routine. You don’t have to stock up those expensive creams and gels but a simple hand and a body lotion will serve the right purpose. Also, keep in mind that after shaving your underarms do not immediately use deodorant on that area. This can cause extreme burning and prove to be very harmful to the skin.
