Incorporating various baby –proof habits in yourself

July 28, 2008

Do you do anything that could spell trouble for your baby? Also think about your spouse, other children, parents, friends or anyone else that is in your home a regular basis. It is very important that you baby- proof yourself and other family members. Try to replace a dangerous habit with a safe practice that can avoid a possible life-threatening tragedy at your place with your baby. Just incorporate few of these child- proof habits to make your child’s life safer.

Do not allow smoking in your house. This is because children who are exposed to smoke in their homes have more chances of suffering from cold and upper respiratory infections. Therefore they miss their school than those residing in non-smoking households.

Never drape clothes or blankets over the side of the crib because they can fall or pulled over the baby’s head.

Do not use a cord to tie rattles or pacifiers to your baby’s clothes. Also, avoid tying a pacifier around his or her neck.

Do not drink or pass hot beverages while your child is nearby or on your lap. This is because that even single drop spilt over your child due to your carelessness can hurt him or her very badly.

Never leave your baby or small child alone in a tub and indulge yourself in finishing other household chores. It may be possible that your baby tip the bathtub seat over and slide into water through the leg opening then climb out of the seats into the water, posing the risk of drowning. This can really prove to be dangerous for your child.

Never give balloons to a baby or a small child. An inflated balloon or pieces from a popped balloon could get struck in his throat and choke him.

Make sure you remove the pet’s food dishes from the floor when he has finished eating.
