Importance of Sleep
If you are burning the midnight oil or just simply depriving your body of proper sleep, then you are definitely doing no good to your health. According to research, a good 7 to 8 hours of sleep is needed for the relaxation and rejuvenation of body. You can’t keep skipping sleeps and expecting to improve your efficiency as your performance will gradually dip due to tired and fatigued mind and body. Similarly, oversleeping too is not healthy. It is all about balance.
Sleep is required for re-energizing of the cells of your mind and body. If you don’t take proper sleep, you increase your chances of various problems including those of stress and even cardiovascular ones. Moreover, lack of sleep also affects your immune system making your body vulnerable to various ailments. It has been found that chronic sleep depravation can also lead to weight gain by altering levels of hormones that affect our appetite. If you think that staying awake the whole night before an exam can help you score better marks, you have got it all wrong. You mind needs rest as a tired and fatigued mind can only hamper your learning, grasping and recollecting skills. Sleep helps the brain commit new information to memory through a process called memory consolidation Thus, it has been found that people who have take a good night’s sleep before an exam, perform better. Moreover, if you don’t provide your body with proper sleep during night, then you will force it to take small naps in the morning. Moreover, you will constantly feel drowsy, fatigued and stressed with a hampering of your efficiency level.
Sleep is thus essential for optimum health and well being of a person. Thus, take adequate sleep to re-energize your mind and body and prevent it from various sleep related problems.
