How to Walk in High Heels

April 14, 2009

highheelwalkFootwear plays an important part of an individual’s personality. Your footwear adds to the look of the dresses you wear. For ladies, high heeled sandals are suitable for use with skirts, gowns and formal dresses.

It is important that you feel comfortable when walking in high heels as they offer less support than other types of footwear.  Take extra care to keep your balance.  The following tips will help you when you walk in high heels.

Tips:

Buy a pair of shoes with an ankle strap if you have never worn high heels before.  The strap will keep you from stepping out of the shoes.

It is important that you buy the right pair of heels, even if you’re looking at heels with straps or other kinds of support.

When trying the shoes on, move your weight from one foot to the other.

Once you have purchased a pair of high heels, wear them.  When stepping, put your heel down first, and then the sole should follow swiftly and smoothly.

The straps should be tight, but comfortable. To balance your weight, walk on your whole foot and don’t step only on the ball of your foot.  When walking, your heel should be put down first.  Push off to the next step with the ball of your foot.

Always try to walk with your toes pointing straight ahead or as close to straight as possible.  Swing your arms while walking for balance.  Your legs should be kept close, straight and parallel. Start walking on flat surfaces with small steps.

When you are confident enough take larger steps, practice walking on different types of terrain and surfaces. While climbing stairs, hold the handrails for balance.  Do not lean backward or forward.
