How to take care of your Paintings

October 1, 2008

If you have the creativity of painting, then you need to know some proper methods of taking care of them so that your carefully created masterpieces can last for a long time. Even if you do not paint but have paintings in your house, then too you need to take care of them to protect them from falling into the shadows of neglect and destruction. Read below and explore such useful tips.

If you have an oil painting at home, then you can’t just take it as a any piece of furniture as they require extra care and attention. Don’t take paintings as just mere inanimate objects, they are an artists creation, his efforts and for that matter, an artists soul. Thus, along with taking care of them for protecting them for a longer time, you also need to keep in mind someone’s hard work so that you value and care for the painting even more than before. One of the basic tips of protecting your oil painting is by avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight as that can fade the colors in the original oil painting. Never let dust build up on such paintings so as to avoid their cracking and peeling. Similarly, never expose your painting to intense heat, cold, or humidity. Taking care of a painting also involves taking care of its canvas. Don’t stack too many paintings together to prevent the danger of a dent or a hole in the canvas. Similarly, never hang an oil painting in such a place where it runs the risk of being bumped or leaned against, touched with fingers, or spattered upon by water fountain. If you are planning to shift house, then carefully wrap the paintings, and insulate it from moisture, humidity and extreme temperature during transportation.

Follow these basic tips to take care of your paintings so that they last a lifetime.
