How to take care of your home appliances

March 31, 2009

Home appliances embedded with latest technology can make your lifestyle easy and hassle-free, leaving you with more time to enjoy life with your family and friends. But if these appliances are not maintained properly, they can turn from a boon to bane, with one member of your family continuously running after electricians and electronic mechanics to fix them. Here is the list of some household appliances and ways in which you can take care of them in the best possible way- have a look!

It may sound clinched but a refrigerator is truly an integral part of every home. And to keep it integral, it needs some basic care and maintenance. If you care for it properly, a refrigerator can stand up to many years of use.

To make your refrigerator odour free, ensure that any food placed in a refrigerator is wrapped or sealed in a container, as plastic and rubber parts inside the refrigerator may absorb odors from unwrapped foods. You should also clean the inside of the refrigerator regularly with a solution of baking soda and water. This kind of care will also prevent odours from being absorbed.

Remove the front grill and vacuum clean it. Also clean the back of the refrigerator and underneath it.

Do a test for the refrigerator door gasket. Close several sheets of paper in the door at different locations, then try to pull them out. If you feel resistance, your gasket is good if not, have it replaced.

As far as your washing machine is concerned, keep the exterior of your washing machine clean. Do not put stuff like removers and other chemicals on top of the machine, as it may spoil the exterior. Adjust the machine’s feet in a proper level, otherwise it may break down.
