How to Stop Hiccups

We all somehow hope for those hiccups to go away. But now you can be prepared for untimely hiccups as this article will make you familiar with some helpful tips to stop the problem of hiccups.

Before going into some natural ways by which you can stop hiccups, let’s define hiccups in one sentence. Hiccups basically are involuntary spasms of diaphragm and can occur to people of all age groups. The most common way of stopping hiccups is by drinking water.

It is widely believed that having a glass of water can help in stopping hiccups. However, you need to ensure that you gulp down water carefully without leaving any breathing space.

When having hiccups, hold your breath. Yes, you heard it right. Just hold your breath of few seconds and then slowly release it. This will help in stopping hiccups.

Hold your breath only till the time it’s comfortable to you. Also, there are some people who have found that breathing into a paper bag can help in naturally stopping hiccups.

You too can try that out.  Sugar helps during hiccups. When having this problem, just eat one teaspoon of sugar and you’ll slowly find yourself not hiccupping any more.

Apart from the given remedies, there are also certain people who overcome this problem of hiccups when startled. Just startle or shock a person and you might actually help him to stop his hiccups.

Given above are some basic yet effective remedies for stopping hiccups. If despite these measures, you are unable to stop your hiccups or if your hiccups are quite frequent and even prolonged, then you can visit a doctor.
