August 21, 2008

As our lives have become so busy, sleep has got knocked to the bottom of our list of priorities. But do you know that sleep deprivation can stop you from thinking clearly and cause you to make mistakes. But here’s what to do when you are sleep starved but need to stay switched on.

Have a cold shower:
Do you know that taking a cold shower in the morning increases your blood flow, pumps more oxygen to the brain and help you to think straight? So don’t wait any more, just get yourself wet under the shower. To heighten the effects, choose a shower gel with an energizing lemon and essential oil power.

Eat proper breakfast:
No matter how much busy you are, don’t ever skip your breakfast. It has been proved that taking a good quality breakfast in the morning makes you more productive than those who don’t eat. But make sure you avoid anything sugary. Though such foodstuff will provide you with good amount of energy but will make you to groan for a bed an hour later. Instead you can go for cottage cheese toast, fruits that are low in sugar content. They would be rich in antioxidants and will encourage the blood flow to the brain.

Listen to music:
Fast, up-temp sounds speed up your brain waves, which stimulates your nervous system, making you feel more alert and energetic. So whenever you work, switch on your music system and work with the flow.

Go for a protein rich lunch:
Ensure that your lunch is rich in proteins. This will supply your brain with amino acids which it converts into the alertness neurotransmitters, dopamine and epinephrine. Choose a low fat option otherwise it can make you feel sluggish.
