How to Remove Coffee Stains

December 12, 2008

A great way to refresh and prepare yourself is with the help of a coffee cup. However, many times we tend to spill over our coffee on our clothes, carpets or sofa sets which in turn develops into permanent stains. Given below are some tips which will help you enjoy your coffee without the fear of its stains.

The best way to deal with a coffee stain is by removing it almost immediately. Do not wait till sending your clothes to the laundry as the stain slowly becomes permanent with time. Take a clean, white cloth and blot the stained area with it, immediately after the spill takes place. If your stain is stubborn, you can use a commercial stain remover. If you have spilled lots of coffee giving rise to a large stain, then you should work small areas at a time until the entire stain is blotted, brushing lightly from the centre of the stain outward. An old tried and tested way of removing coffee stains, even stubborn ones, is by using one teaspoon of white vinegar in one quart cold water and sponging it on the stained area. You can also sprinkle some baking soda directly onto a damp cloth and use that to clean and soak up the stain. To remove coffee stains from nylon or polyester, presoak the stain in a solution of 1 quart warm water, ½ teaspoon dishwashing detergent, and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for 15 minutes. Rinse it with water and sponge the remaining area by rubbing it with alcohol or launder if possible. Wash it as usual and dry it to see the difference.

Given above are some effective ways of getting rid of coffee stains. The most important tip is to get rid of such stains as soon as possible so as to avoid permanent marks.
