How to Prevent Colds and Flu

February 26, 2009

Are you often a victim of constant sneezes, cold and flu? If yes, then there are certain ways by which you can reduce the frequency of cold attacks by taking proactive preventive steps.

You must have heard of the fact that cold and flu spreads by being in direct contact with an affected person. This is because germs and viruses causing cold get easily passed to another person through sneezes and also by coming in contact with things which an affected person had touched. Thus, it is always advised to thoroughly wash your hands so as to avoid cold germs. Also, it is for this reason that medical experts always advise avoiding going to a crowded place during the flu season.

According to medical science, the eyes, mouth, and nose are the main body parts through which flu virus and germs enter our body. Thus, avoid touching your face, especially when you are in public places. Have you ever wondered why colds are so common in winter season? This is because people in winters stay indoors for most of the time and the central heating there tends to dry and dehydrate the skin, leading to body’s increased vulnerability to flu and cold attacks. Thus, keep your body hydrated and also get some fresh air.

As mentioned before, you need to keep your body hydrated to prevent it from virus attacks. Thus, drink adequate water and also increase your intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, especially the yellow colored ones.

Give up the unhealthy habits of smoking and drinking as they are harmful for your overall health. Thus, follow the above given steps, follow proper hygiene, keep yourself hydrated, eat healthy and exercise regularly to strengthen your immunity and prevent yourself from cold attacks and flu.
