How to Overcome Fear of Flying

September 14, 2009

fearflyWe all need to recognize our fears and fight them so that there is no fear that can stop us from moving ahead in life. There are various kinds of fears people suffer from: fear of water, fire, heights, darkness and many others.

This article will talk about fear of flying and ways by which you can overcome this fear.

There are many people who suffer from a fear of flying. Such people suffer from symptoms like panic attacks, nausea, and general discomfort when flying. Let’s look at some ways by which you can overcome your fear of flying.

To begin with, you need to learn to understand your fear to effectively deal with it.  Ponder on the reasons why you are afraid of flying. There are many people who fear flying due to fear of air crash or accident.

If this is the cause of your fear, you must think practically and understand that flying in air is one of the safest options, especially if you compare it with the frequency of road accidents. Try to understand the cause of your fear and then deal with it.

Get over negative thoughts as they are the root cause of a majority of problems. Instead of thinking about an air crash, think about the enjoyable journey and the pleasure of reaching your desired destination.

Before flying, you must try to calm yourself down. Deep breathing and meditation can help. You can also try listening to calm and soothing music as that will help in relaxing your tensed nerves. In addition, try to divert your attention during flight by reading books.

Instead of running away from your fear, face it. Try to fly frequently and follow the above given tips and you’ll find yourself slowly overcoming the fear of flying.
