How to Make Peanut Butter at Home

June 1, 2009

peanutbutterMany people love to have peanut butter and children in particular prefer to have a peanut butter sandwich in their Tiffin. The name of Peanut Butter itself seems heavy and no hiding the truth, it is definitely a high calories protein snack.

Though peanut butter contains fat, it has been found that a majority of its fat content is monounsaturated fat which is in fact good for your overall health. However, eat peanut butter in moderate quantities only.

Instead of buying peanut butter from markets which usually contain high levels of salt and preservatives, you can try out the healthy alternative of making peanut butter at home.

Preparing peanut butter at home is not an uphill task and this article will provide you with simple ways of preparing this much cherished snack at home.

As the name suggests, the main ingredients for preparing peanut butter at home include peanuts. First of all, you must take peanuts and roast them. You can roast them on low heat till the time they become brown.

This will ensure that the peanuts are properly roasted and are neither left undercooked nor overly roasted. Now you can put one cup of roasted peanuts in a grinder or food processor and add about 1½ teaspoons of peanut oil or olive oil in it. Also, add salt to it.

You should grind the mixture till it attains the thickness and texture as desired by you. With these simple steps, your peanut butter is ready for consumption.

You must store peanut butter in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. However, you must not store them for a long time as peanut butter made at home lacks the preservatives that a market product has and thus they are likely to get spoilt easily if not consumed on time. You should thus prepare only the required amount of peanut butter.
